How to make custom pop up or layer on picture in post

On every page/item on my site I have a set of icons, explaining to the reader, what kind of attraction they are reading about. I.e. an icon for family friendly, a loud attraction or one where you can get sick. However it is only an icon, with no text, and I want to be able to put in a custom picture when users are clicking the icons, so I can put up an explanation for the icons the readers. Do you know about a plugin that can give me that ability? It is important that it not just a pop-up of the same picture, but a custom picture I choose. It can also be a mouse over plugin with a custom picture.
