• This might seem stupid but I’m new to this. I finally got my blog set up but when I click on comments nothing happens. How is this supposed to work? I thought the default thing would be to click on “comments” and then you can post a comment?

    Thanks,
    ~peter

    OK, one final call for help. I’ve talked to my service provider dozens of times, I’ve re-installed WP completely from scratch 3 times, I’ve tried changing the URI for the Blog address. Is there anything I can do to have a working blog with links that work? Does anyone know if MovableType or some other blog software works any better or easier? Any help? Please.

    I have hit something very similar to this, but was able to track it down. I had been editing my permalink structure, and found that
    /%year%%monthnum%%day%-%hour%%minute%/%post_id%
    will work, ie the comments display, but
    /%year%%monthnum%%day%-%hour%%minute%
    does not, comments and entry edit times, as well as leave responce links and such do not work.

    my guess is that its silently failing because it thinks that the latter is not necessarily unique?

    I had this exact problem, and this solution worked for me, and now it’s all dandyfine– but is there any fix that you could just keep the permalink structure with the date without specifying the postname or post id?

    @sandwiches,
    I think the answer is not. If a blogger has the permalink set only to date, without the id or postname, what happens if s/he posts more than once a day? How would WP “know” which post to pull out from the database?
