How to make a WP site look like a 'normal' site

I don’t think there is any plugin for this, you will have to remove the things you don’t like manually.

On the dashboard, go to settings/reading and you will see an option to make the front page display a “static page” rather than your blog posts. Select an existing page to display and voila!

I have done this but I find there is still an option to ‘leave a reply’.
Am I missing something?

Ah. Maybe on the page you’re using as “home” you have “comments” activated. That’s all I can think of. In the dashboard edit that page and look under the text where it says “discussion”. There’s an option there for comments.

open the page to edit it and on the top right corner click on screen options, then click the box next to “Discussions” scroll down below the text box and there are now two options for Allow comments and
Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page, unclick either or both and it goes away. You have to do this for each page you want to take comments off of.
