How to make a gallery with images in multiple categories and search options

Hi,
I’m trying to make a website with a gallery. I choose the customizr theme, but i’m quit stuck for a week now.My gallery could get quite big and i need customers to be able to search with multiple criteria (for example ‘city’, ‘painting’, ‘price’) at the same time. I need to be able to assign one image to multiple categories instead of creating a new gallery for every different categorie combination.
I’ve tried about 20 plugins but i can’t figure out how to do this.
Also i have doubts wether this is the right way, because when a plugin is not updated anymore… So maybe i need a different theme in the first place?
Also, if my menu is setup with categories instead of pages (to be able to sort images in multiple categories), i’m worried if it will load slowly when it gets bigger.
Any advice would be great! I’m new with wordpress…
Should i have a different theme? Is there a great gallery plugin for this? (probably not free?)kind regards!
