• I went to my site yesterday, https://www.dfcfew.org and I received the following error message:

Warning: require_once(/home/dfcfew/dfcfew.org/wp-includes/widgets/class-wp-widget-recent-posts.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/dfcfew/dfcfew.org/wp-includes/default-widgets.php on line 35

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/home/dfcfew/dfcfew.org/wp-includes/widgets/class-wp-widget-recent-posts.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/local/php5/lib/pear’) in /home/dfcfew/dfcfew.org/wp-includes/default-widgets.php on line 35

Based on the error I assumed I had to update something in wordpress, however when I go to dfcfew.org/wp-admin it still gives me the error message. How do I log into wp-admin if I can’t get to my site?

  • Hi @kurbs33,

Seems like something really got broken within your WordPress setup. Let’s start with the usual stuff, have you installed any plugins or made changes to your theme?

    Thank you,

    Regards,
    Artur

    Hi Artur,

I haven’t touched the site in a few months. I’m a low level user, basically all I was suppose to do was update some text on the front page. With the last wp update some links got broke and I’ve been looking for someone to help me fix those. Well, I finally found someone to help me, but when they saw the error message yesterday they basically said “can’t help you until we can log in”. Hence why I’m here.

From what I have been able to find, until I can get to dfcfew.org/wp-admin I can’t update my plugins, which from the message seems to be the issue.

    Thanks,
    Kerbi

    Hi Kerbi,

Do you have access to FTP at least?

    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Artur

    Try this:

Okay.. download a fresh copy of WP from HERE.

Then, extract the files to your desktop.

Now, open your FTP and from your newly extracted folder.. replace all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. For more info, read the Manual Update directions first.
Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.
