How to link to html

.html takes priority first

so ftp your site to your new wordpress host and also install .php wordpress.

thus now have.
https://yoursite.com/index.html
https://yoursite.com/index.php

public will see (until removed)
https://yoursite.com/index.html

this =>https://yoursite.com/index.html
will be cloned under your theme customization.

once cloned rename .html to .html.bac and visit
https://yoursite.com/

if you wish to review the clone while working then go to
https://yoursite.com/index.php
login will still be
https://yoursite.com/wp-admin/

* you will still need to rebuild the remaining html files as Pages and create Posts for your articles, so don’t rename .html until all is migrated

Yes thanks Christian. I’ve just tried that out & it works, but it’s not quite what I wanted. I wanted to have both the old site and the WordPress site available at the same time, having the old html up alongside WordPress, with a link from a WordPress post to my html index file. I just can’t work out how to make that link work. I can shift my html files wherever they will work, but how do I set the link up?

in wordpress under menu, you can create custom menu links to your html site.

Thanks Christian. I can create a link to an absolute url, but since I don’t yet have the domain transferred I am working with a temporary url to access my site. Is there any way of putting a relative link in? At the moment my old html is in its own directory in wp-content, but I can move it if that helps.

you can move the html site to the root, not sure why u placed it in the wp-content folder?

secondly, im not aware of relative linking in any way, maybe a menu plugin might help for that.
