How to link attachment page (lightbox) to gallery image?

When I click a a gallery image, rather than getting an enlarged photo with caption, I get the Photo Detail page with no information or image. If I edit the image in the gallery and view the “attachment page”, this shows the enlarged photo with caption but I can’t seem to link this attachment page to the gallery image. Any ideas?
