How to know if I am in a page or a post ?

    Hi,

    I’d like to have a specific item appearing only in the “pages” of WordPress, and not in the “posts”.
    So I need to modify a plug-in (PodPress) so that I can handle this.

    Is there as existing function that would allow me to know where I am, either in a post or in a page ?
    How does wordpress know that an item is a post or a page ? Is the information nestled somewhere in a table ?
