I’m trying to clean up folders on accounts that aren’t being used so they won’t get hacked.

For example, I have a site that has a beta folder and an oldsite folder.

I’m concerned, if I delete these folders, something will stop working on the site.

How do I know if content within the folder is being used on the current site?

What do you recommend I do?

    Thanks!

  • Maybe just rename it for now while watching to see whether something breaks when/if it cannot be reached.

Thanks! Great idea. I’ll try that. I appreciate the quick response.

So all I have to do is go into FTP and rename the folder from, let’s say, wordpress to old-wordpress, then check the site to make sure everything works. And if it does, I can delete those files?

    Is that right? @leejosehpo

Yep, sounds right to me. I typically just add a hyphen near the middle of a name to disable something (like ‘.htac-cess’ or ‘plug-ins’) without greatly affecting its place in a list of folders or files, but just about anything will do. One caution, however, it that I have discovered WordPress is capable of ignoring folder names and going right on in while/when looking for theme template files.
