With the Web Stories WP plugin, there is a nice set of options for adding text to a scene in the story.

H1, H2, and preformatted ones like Cover, List, Quotes, etc.

After a text element is placed on a page/scene, is there a way to know after the story is constructed all the elements (HTML) tags in the story?

If we are strict for SEO purposes, ideally there is only one H1, multiple H2’s, and H3’s

It would be nice to know, either before or after, the complete structure of the story.

    Thouhgts?

    Terry

    Hi Terry,

    Great question!

There currently is no way to know the resulting HTML markup structure or class names, as everything is auto-generated and minified in the process. Right now, all text elements use simple <p> elements and no heading tags.

However, there is an open feature request to allow you to specify whether a text element should be a paragraph or H1, H2, etc.

So it’s something we’re keen on addressing in the future.

@swissspidy — thank you for your comment and insight.

This is ‘very’ interesting. So, the plug-in text option presets are just for style (size, font) which is great to know.

I try to stay tight with structure and SEO and always thought the two supported each other. H1 – Topic of story, H2 – sub topic & supports H1, H3 – supports H2 topic, paragraph – supports H2 and H3.

Very similar to the rules of MLA style of writing.

To help us build better stories, should we think of each scene as content (h2, h3 p) to the H1 – Cover page title, and just let Google do it’s magic on indexing the story the way they will?

Ultimately, I’m trying to create stories/content that adhere to the indexing principles and provide interesting naturally flowing content/story.

    Thoughts?

Yes, the text presets are currently just for style, but this might change eventually.

Since we haven’t implemented said feature request yet, you don’t really have to worry about the semantic markup it generates. And once we do, we would provide the necessary guidance on how to best structure the content.
