How to integrate post_status?

First of all: Thanks for this simple and easy-to-use plugin! I’m currently wrapping my head around how to respect the post’s status (publish, future etc.) when displaying the popup. E.g. if a post is set to “future”, then the popup should display something like “There’s nothing to see here”.

I’ve already checked the plugins classes, but I don’t see where to edit the query. Any ideas on where to start? Thanks!
