How to install Duplicator package to overwrite an existing WP installation

Is there any reason why you want to leave the old file in location, if you plan to overwrite most of them? The main reason you should clean out the directory before hand is because if you try to extract the folder and contents on top of the old site you may get results you don’t want, and inter-mix the old site with the new one…

The only reason for not wanting to started with a clean slate is that my hosting site gave me a domain site with WP installed. No real contents of course other than a default basic theme. I am unsure if by deleting everything with the intent of starting from scratch, I would also delete the basic WP instance. Does the migrated files also install a WP instance? I don’t mind starting from scratch if I could find some tutorial on how to clean a site before bringing over a WP site. BTW, many thanks for yoru reply.

Just log into your site via FTP and delete all the files in your WordPress Root directory (the directory where your host put all the WP files)

Yes… On the vast majority of most hosts that is the case. Always backup all your data ahead of time for good measure…

Hi, apologies for jumping on this post but I’m a novice and stressing out about replacing a clients site. They currently have a WordPress site which I have the login details for. I have my new site I built (on MAMP) and I’ve gone as far as running duplicator on both sites, so I have a back up of the old site and I have the new site.

Do I need to go into the hosting control panel or can i upload within wordpress on the existing site?? Please help!! Thank you in advance.
