    as mentioned in the docs – inline syntax highlighting is currently not supported within the Gutenberg paragraph block.

    please take the legacy text block to use the inline highlighting tinymce styles

    i’m currently working on an inline-integration which will may be added to one of the next releases. but it is much more complex then the “block code”. additionally it has a lot of disadvantages because of Gutenbergs “single paragraph” approach (longer text have to split into multiple paragraphs). Therefore it is much easier to use the legacy (classic) block.
