I used WP featherlight very happily a few years ago but then it seemed to stop working and I had no real time for my personal site. Recently I came back to it but saw that WPf had not been updated for ages so paid up for Modula (not very impressed with it). Now you seem to be active again and I’d like the simple function to put a single image into a page in thumbnail or small and have what i remember featherlight used to do really well: that if the visitor clicked on the image it would appear full size.

Now I can’t get it to work at all! I’m using WP 5.4–en_GB and the problem seems to be there on my sandbox site where I don’t have other graphic plugins. My sense is that it’s a change in how WP calls images that’s broken things. Is that true? Is there a way to get that “click to enlarge” function for a single image with WPf?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @psyctc,

It doesn’t look like you’re linking the images to anything in the block. In order for the plugin to work, you need to set the link in the image to itself by setting that under Link Settings in the sidebar when you’re editing the block. Once you’ve done that, the plugin will open the image in a lightbox.

I’ve read that link and your reply and it doesn’t help me. I see no

    Link Settings

in the sidebar, see https://staging.coresystemtrust.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Selection_049_for_featherlight.png. I’m sorry if I’m being blind or stupid but I really have searched around and couldn’t find anything and I’m sure I’d read that earlier post which hadn’t helped. Can you link to a screenshot showing me what I should be seeing or tell me more about how to find it?

By the way, surely it was a bit premature to mark this “resolved”?

    Hi @psyctc,

The sidebar option may have been removed at some point, but here is some background for you: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/12705

In your screenshot, you can see a link icon in the bar. Click on that and choose Media file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/b7h1c0llh0bmq9i/Selection_049_for_featherlight.jpg?dl=0

I marked the issue as resolved because the issue you’re having is with using WordPress and not something the plugin is causing. The new editor has thrown a lot of people for a loop, especially if you’ve been away from WordPress for a while.

So it’s the bar on TOP of the block you are talking about. Even if “sidebar” is the official name for that, which I don’t think is the case, I will not be the only person looking at the sides for this. Then you say:

“In your screenshot, you can see a link icon in the bar. Click on that and choose

    Media file

What on earth is that link there for? If I just select “Media file” I agree it works.

I’m not convinced that an issue that cripples the end user experience is “resolved” either if it’s caused by the inescapable host system, here WordPress, or if it has a solution but that solution is so poorly explained that the end user can’t use it without coming back to you. Ah well, pity, I liked featherlight a great deal, perhaps I still do. However, it gets a one star rating now. Software quality is as much about support as about unexplained functionality. This may be a free plugin, so I agree I take my chances, but it looks as if you ought to be making enough from the extensions to be able to sort out good support.

    Hi @psyctc,

We don’t know why WordPress put the link there. That would be a question for them and is out of our control. If you deactivate WP Featherlight, that will still be how you link your images.

We’re happy that your issue was resolved and best of luck to you.
