Generally, you can put HTML code into a text widget. What is the ad code you are using?

You can use text widgets to insert ads in your sidebar. You just need to insert the ad codes into those widgets and save them. If it does not work, you may try one of the plugins from these:

If none of the above suits you, you may need to contact your theme’s author/vendor for support as we do not support commercial themes here.

I am really a rookie here. I am going to try and explain as simply as possible what I am doing.
I have clients I can sell static ads to so when asking ad code I have no idea what this is?
I am not interested in using adsense at this time, nor affiliate sites at this time.
I am trying to place ads on my sidebars on the pages of my website.
I have made ads (jpegs and pngs) and have them stored in files on my computer.
I need to know how to write html to find and upload these files then insert the code into I guess the text widget?
I am using a free theme called traffica which I will upgrade to a PRO version eventually as I believe it does not allow left sidebars

Upload those to your site like any other image. The use this image widget to put them in a sidebar:

You can also do it using HTML in a regular text widget – here’s a good site for basic HTML info:
