How to increase traffic to your blog

  • Hi,

    I am putting together a list of ways to increase traffic to your blog. Here is what I’ve come up with so far, any other ideas?:

    1. Post often
    2. Use pretty URLs
    3. Submit your feed to directories (e.g. Wingee)
    4. ????

  • Backlinks are important otherwise search engines can’t find you. Submit your sitemap to Google and Yahoo. Probably the most important is writing good content.

    Shameless self-promotion.

    Post well written comments on blogs you read and add your url in the section provided.

    Tell your friends, family, co-workers about your blog. Word of mouth is a powerful advertising tool.

    Add your url to your personal email signature. This is probably not appropriate for a work related email address unless your blog is part of your business.

    Put your url in your Facebook/Myspace profile.

    And, as jeremyclark13 pointed out, good content is the most important aspect of increasing traffic. If your content is bad, readers won’t come back for more no matter what you do.
