    Hey there,

is there any way that Product Feed Pro can also incorporate variable products into the data feed?

We’re running a Facebook retargeting campaign for a fashion store (s. link). If you go to a product page, you have to select a size. Before selecting the size, the store shows the user a variable product with a category content ID (e.g. Hoodie). If you select a size, the content ID will be adjusted (e.g. Hoodie-L for size L).

The shop does have such a variable product but Product Feed Pro doesn’t include this product (and its content ID) in the data feed. All size based products (e.g. Hoodie-L, Hoodie-XXL) are available.

I’m looking forward to your reply!

    Hi Pascal,

Thanks for using our plugin and reaching out to us. I believe your question is if you can add parent variable products to a Facebook Catalogue feed next to simple and variations products? Unfortunately this is not possible, we have explain the reason for that here, including an alternative: https://adtribes.io/can-i-add-mother-products-to-my-feed-and-leave-out-the-variations/

Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, this was my question indeed.

    Both alternatives don’t work.

    1. ‘Exclude from feeds’ checkbox on the product edit page
Where is the product edit page? I can’t find the checkbox on the options available: General feed settings, Field mapping, Category mapping, Feed filters and rules, Conversion & Google Analytics settings.

    2. exclude individual variations from the product feed by creating “exclude filters”
If I apply the filter, how do I set it up properly? I assume I need to select “Product ID” for “if” and then “1” for “value”?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I was mostly referring to this feature, please check it out:
    https://adtribes.io/how-to-add-only-one-product-variation-to-your-product-feed/

    • The ‘exclude from feeds’ checkbox is only available for our paid Elite users. When you would like to know more about this please reach out via the “contact us” section on our website.
    • You can indeed exclude individual variations using a filter that looks like this (44096 is a product ID): https://www.dropbox.com/s/3yqbox4v54z4j4l/exclude-prod-id.png?dl=0

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

the option from the first link doesn’t work because I don’t have the premium version and can’t set a default value. Also, I don’t need the product variation but the variable parent ID.

I’m not quite sure if this checkbox solves my problem. I do need to have the variable parent ID + the product variation IDs in one data feed?

There must be a way to make this possible?

    Hi Charles,

Unfortunately it is not. Most likely Facebook (and Google) will even disapprove those parent variable products when you add them to your feed. The reasons for this were described in the first link we shared: https://adtribes.io/can-i-add-mother-products-to-my-feed-and-leave-out-the-variations/

    Hi there,

Thanks but how are we then supposed to track View Content events?

Please take a look at the fashion store below. Before selecting an item size, the content ID is the variable parent ID (incubus). If someone visits this site, we want to retarget them. However, this won’t be possible if we cannot add variable product IDs to the data feed?

    Thanks

    Hi Pascal,

Our plugin add’s the variations of a parent variable product to your feed and the Facebook pixel feature of our websites triggers the product ID’s of the variations when a parent variable page is looked at by a user.

    See:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/zmdtf0eqzh5g85u/content_ids_fb_pixel.png?dl=0

This is the content of a Facebook pixel of a parent variable product. As you can see it doesn’t add only the product ID of the parent variable product but also the variations.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Please take a look at the screenshots below:

The Pixel does only show the parent variable product ID (incubus). This is for the View Content event BEFORE people choose a size. The second screenshot also shows that your plug in has only included product ID’s of the variations.

You are not using our Facebook pixel feature but most likely another plugin for this.

    Thread Starter charlesandcharlotte

    (@charlesandcharlotte)

That’s true, we’re using another Plug In but does that matter? The issue is that the parent variable ID is NOT in the data feed because of your plug in…

Parent products are not allowed to be in your feed. Both Facebook and Google will disapprove of those so why would you even want to put them in?

And yes, your Facebook pixel and feed need to align.

    Thread Starter charlesandcharlotte

    (@charlesandcharlotte)

“As you can see it doesn’t add only the product ID of the parent variable product but also the variations.”

Didn’t you say yourself that the Pixel also includes the parent variable product ID even with your solution? So if this is the case, the would also be a mismatch between the pixel and the data feed, wouldn’t it?

Yes it does because the product ID of the parent product ID is saved in the item_group_id of your feed. Facebook and Google use those to determine if variations belong to a group of products. That’s why we also added it to the Facebook pixel. As you can see in the screenshot the content_type of the Facebook pixel is also set to “product_group” because of this.

    Thread Starter charlesandcharlotte

    (@charlesandcharlotte)

Gotcha! That makes sense. Is the “content_id” of a “product_group” the same like the “item group id” in the data feed?

If so, I might have the solution: I would simply have to map the parent variable SKU as item group ID in the data feed?

    https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Nsmzw7dwJzAFKRmUHU17stiC2lSzinZW?usp=sharing

BTW: Your help is amazing! Many many thanks, hope that we have fixed this issue soon ??

“If so, I might have the solution: I would simply have to map the parent variable SKU as item group ID in the data feed?”

That won’t result in our plugin adding the parent variable product to your feed. It will only result in all variations having the SKU of your parent variable product and although that “might” result in the Facebook Pixel and feed to match the parent variable product itself won’t be in your feed. Our plugin, on purpose, can’t do that.
