How to Import Del.icio.us into WordPress Blogroll
-
I was able to find a workaround for getting Del.icio.us links into the Blogroll and wanted to share. Original post is here.
I wasn’t able to find any plugins or any specific way to import Del.icio.us links into the WordPress blogroll. WordPress will support the OPML import option and the RSS import options, however RSS importing will put links into the Posts, not Blogroll. As for Del.icio.us, RSS only exports 100 links, and there is no way to export in the OPML format. However, I found a workaround. ??
- The first step is to get your links out of Delicious. Easiest way: export to an HTML format by using this Delicious Export Link. You can get them all exported in one file, or export them according to tags. I’ve exported them all in one big file, however that means after importing I have to set the categories for each link. If you export according to certain tags, you can then import the links and set categories as you go.
- Next, You’ll need Firefox and the OPML Support extension. Install Firefox, then add the OPML Support extension.
- Import your Delicious bookmarks into Firefox by going to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks and select Import HTML. Select your delicious HTML file, and all your Delicious bookmarks will show up in Firefox.
- Now, you want to export your bookmarks from Firefox in the OPML format. From the bookmarks Library, you’ll see a circle for the Export OPML option. Perform this export and your links will be exported in the proper OPML format. Now you’re ready to import them into WordPress.
- From within your WordPress installation, go to Tools > Import > Blogroll. Select your exported OPML file and import.
Now, your links are all within your Blogroll in your WordPress installation. If anyone has any suggestions on how to divide these links into categories, please let me know and I’ll update these instructions.
