how to import a backup file of size more than 2MB

  • i have installed WP 2.9.2.But i cant import my backup
    any way to fix THIS ERROR

    I did the export and got the backup File in xml format
    But my problem is
    The xml file which I got after my backup is of 48 MB.
    WORDPRESS SAY THE MAXIMUM SIZE OF THE BACKUP file can be a maximum of
    2MB.I tried 2 ways to import the xml file THE RSS OPTION AND
    WXR file to upload.what can i do now to solve this

    I GET THIS WHEN I IMPORT MY XML FILE
    Sorry, there has been an error.
    The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.

  • i don’t think there is any way around that problem… the next option is to backup from the phpmyadmin…

    are you sure your database xml file is that big… 48 mb of xml file means you perhaps got loads of comments/posts etc.

    well if the site is big we also have huge comments and a lot of post
    is there no way to back up XML files,MORE THAN 2 MB.
    even for other sites my xml size is 30 mb.since I didnot upgrage their WP
    it ok for now.Can you say about BACKUP FROM PHPMYADMIN.

    backup from phpmyadmin is slightly more complicated than the xml backup. Firstly let me know which hosting you are using and do the host provide the cpanel?

    a 48 MB xml file will be a huge sql file if exported from phpmyadmin, could be several hundred mb in size… it is possible to backup, that is export/import big sql files from phpmyadmin but usually its unsuccessful, atleast from my experience…

    i will wait to see if anyone else replies here, i too face problems with backing up big databases…

    Yes my host provide Cpanel.
    I did backup from PHPMYADMIN.But i can use that here after
    right now I have the xml file of 48 MB what can i do with it
    Should my host fix this problem for me by expanding the SPACE FOR BACKUP

    Now i wonder how the big guys like Problogger or Ami[LABNOL] back up their site.
