How to I change layout of my default (Go) theme?

  • WordPress beginner here, and I am having trouble trying to change the layout of my default “Go” theme. I want to change the size of the map, and move it.

    The standard editing controls are even confusing me at the moment… (Block control > Columns/HTML), if I change one option, the whole menu bar changes, and I can’t get it back to how it was etc. I am struggling to find tutorials that cover this area of using the editing tools.

    Most of the tutorials I have seen seem to look different to my WordPress screen, and they mostly cover blogs rather than a standard website.

    I have seen Gutenberg and Elementor used a lot in many tutorials. Do I need one of these? What is difference between using plugins like this vs stock WordPress? I also read Gutenberg is standard in WordPress these days, so am I already using it?

    I am using WordPress 5.4 on GoDaddy if that makes any difference.

  • Your default theme is supplied by GoDaddy; it’s not WordPress default theme.
    All questions about the theme should be asked on the theme’s support forum, because each is different, but the theme shouldn’t be involved that much in editing content.
    Since you are using WP 5.4, you have the block editor, unless you installed a plugin to disable it (or enable Classic editor). Other page builder plugins are popular, but not necessary.

    OK, I thought just moving a block (map) would be a basic procedure, which is not unique to a particular theme?

    Sounds like I need to search for tutorials on using “default block editor” in WP 5.4? That was part of the problem, I don’t even know what I should be searching for!

    I was just mentioning your theme because you did. I guess I don’t understand your question because it sounds related to the theme or specific to your content. (a map, and moving it? I have no clue what you are doing.)
    If your question really is about the editor, can you be more specific and perhaps a screenshot?
