How to have multiple columns of short article summaries?

  • Not sure how to describe this but does anyone know of a theme or hack to allow WP to show multiple columns of short article summaries such as on the website of The Register?

    Obviously the register has a lot more articles, so I am envisaging perhaps two or three columns of articles, each with a heading and a short extract of the content instead of the usual WP one column block.

    I know … I know … the diehard are going to answer “WP is not for that”. But it is such a nice interface and such a nice engine and such a good development community that it is hard NOT to want to use WP to do such a job.

    Yes, it is possible. I made once such a theme:
    – one featured article’s excerpt at the top
    – below it 2 columns with short excerpts, showing 8 articles
    – two or one sidebar on the right

    I didn’t see anything like that in the freely available themes, sorry.

    Note that the classified ads would be replaced with your man posts,in the two sidebars you can have a posts showing from two specific categories.

    Hi. This is feedback to myself and a bump.

    I discovered at last;

    Particles, a WordPress theme from Devlounge. Its looks pretty good. I cant find it in the repository here but there is a link, here.

    I do not know if anyone has played around with it but I can only make it show 10 posts, the demo has many more.

    There is a support topic but it has been closed now.

    Does anyone know how to make it show more?

    Ah … I worked it out myself. The theme still adheres to the Settings > Reading Settings preference.
