How to have multiple blockquote stles?

In my theme’s css I have copied the blockquote style a couple of times and altered the background color to achieve a different look.

My question, what is the best way to implement these styles? WordPress cuts off the close paragraph |/p| (substituting pipes for angle brackets for readability in these forums) if I make these styles classes, and the close ‘<div>’ if I use a DIV. Any thoughts?
