• How can I have a LIVE WordPress site (just for myself) and a static copy (for the public) on the same server?

I am clear how to make WordPress static. I am unclear about the folder structure.

Now my live site is in /home/public_html/my_domain/ (root)

My idea is to have it in /home/public_html/my_domain/live/ and have the static copy in root /home/public_html/my_domain/

I can the use the live site to make changes and easily make copy/ftp them to the static root.

Does that make sense or will I hit problems?

I prefer to have a live site on the same server due to same environment, same php etc.

  • You can run another instance of WordPress inside a folter on an existing site. Depending on the server the biggest issue that you coudl have it problems with the .htaccess files from both sites clashing.

If it’s possible with your hosting account, I’d recommend creating a new sub-domain and installing the ‘live’ version on that. That way you don’t have to worry about anything mixing or having problems.

Thanks, I am testing something right now on a spare domain.
