how to give access to write a post without access to admin dashboard

I understand how to assign the role, but I don’t see a way in the codex, to show the user the Add Post link or form. I set up a few test users with Contributor role and logged in as that user; then I went to {site name}/wp-admin, but their dashboard does not have an option to add a post.
