How to get the Thumbnail widget to downloads thumnail sizes?

  • I use the thumbnails widget from the widget section of WordPress.

    To create the thumnail images to the bottom left of any post https://stooryduster.co.uk/birdie

    But the widget downloads the full size images and then resizes them.

    Can I get it to download the thumbnails sizes that WordPress has created anyway, rather than the full size.

    I’m not an experienced coder but can edit – with care.

    Any help appreciated cheers.

    There must be a solution. I don’t even know where the bits of code relevant to widgets reside in the installation – or as an additional question – if I make a change how can I get it to survive through upgrades?
