How to get the amount of posts under a category

  • I wanted to add some really small stats about the content in my site, so I needed some way to retrieve the amount of posts under ‘X’ category, to show it on header… is there any easy way? i’ve been searching on docs for two hours, and can’t find anything, will really appreciate any kind of help.

    I just know that you can configure your category widget . there is a option ‘show post counts’ .
    then in the category of sidebar , it shows the post number.

    Thanks, but i did know that way, i just need some php to do it, so i can place it anywhere i want to, not a widget, thx any way
