The plugin calculates taxes for me just fine but I can’t figure out how to get a report to file my taxes that breaks down the tax collected from each city in my state.

I see two places to run reports:

    1. ANALYTICS > TAXES

This report only populates if I manually enter every city under Woocommerce > Settings > Tax > Standard Rates — it doesn’t seem to be connected to this plugin.

    2. WOOCOMMERCE > REPORTS > TAXES

This lists every Tax name as “US-WA-WA TAX-1” so I can’t distinguish between them and it also seems to be populating data based on the hand-entered Standard Rates mentioned above.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks ??

  • Hi @4kittenbritches,

Thanks for reaching out about getting reports about taxes. In regard to creating the reports, please only use the Analytics offerings. The Reports section is being deprecated and may not hold all of the data you need. It may also be incorrect when calculating.

You should see the same tax rate name in the Analytics section as you do in the Reports section. I have a test store using WA State as the location the taxes are configured like this:

And it shows in the Analytics Tax report like this:

It appears that yours uses “Tax 1” in the “Tax Name” tax settings. I recommend changing the titles to those city names then refreshing the order data in the Analytics section. You can do that by navigating in your Admin to Analytics → Settings. Then scroll to the bottom to find the Import Historical Data section. Uncheck the “Skip previously imported customers and orders” box and then click the Start button.

Once that import finishes the reports should show the new names you have configured in the Tax settings. Please reply to this thread if you need more assistance on this matter. I hope this helps! Thanks again for contacting WooCommerce.com support. I hope your week is treating you well. Take care and stay safe!

Hi Phillip! Thanks for your help.

I imported all Historical Data as you suggested but saw no change to the report.

As requested, I can just use the Analytics Report.

However, in order to get any data from the Analytics Tax Report it appears I have to hand-enter tax information for each WA city under Woocommerce > Settings > Tax > Standard Rates. Is this correct? I believe the Shipping & Tax app pulls the tax rates from somewhere else so is there a way that I can use/access that info??

WA state does have a CSV document I can upload under Standard Rates with the taxes for all 377 cities in WA, however, when I import this the Analytics report doesn’t match up the correct cities/tax rates to the sales properly. I am theorizing the Analytics Report matches data up based on zip code, which is not included in the WA State Tax Document. (And there are wayyyy more zip codes than cities)

Here’s what it looks like: Analytics Tax Report

The first line with 38 sales should be Olympia, WA with a 9.4% tax rating.

The second line with 30 sales is a totally random assortment of cities!!

None of the cities or tax % in the report are correct. I made sure to format the CSV the same way as the example provided under Standard Tax Rates but just don’t have those zip codes is the only thing I can see.

    Thanks!
    Darcy

    Hi there Darcy,

Thanks for trying to import the historical data and for confirming this doesn’t appear to have worked for you.
