How to get sticky footer with Twenty Eleven child?

By “sticky” I mean:
On short pages the footer is pushed to the bottom of the page instead of hanging just below the short page content.
On long pages with lots of content the footer is pushed off the visible page to the very bottom. Just like a normal website, it will come into view when you scroll all the way down.
On my Twenty Eleven child I have tried those 4 methods, none worked:
