• Okay bare with me please, I’m VERY new to this. I wanted to get started using a wordpress theme I found and will buy. However, I wanted to know the basics before making any financial investment. So how exactly does this work.

From what I understand the process goes in this order:
Purchase wordpress hosting from third party
    “One click” installation
    Buy wordpress template
    Upload template
    Customize template

    Is it really that easy?

  • For installation, yes. Depends on your host if they provide script installer (e.g. WordPress installer via Fantastico or whatever script installer they have), and their server configuration.

Hi WPNweby, I highly recommend you to test the whole wordpress-system with a free blog at wordpress.com (!), where you can test all the functions and it helps you to get a bit more used to the functions that WP offers. It would simply be a waste of money to buy a costy theme and hosting, only to find out that blogging is nothing for you…

Regarding your question… first of you need a host (godaddy, hostgator, bluehost, etc. etc.), preferably one that offers you a cpanel, as you can install WP via the cpanel more easy & quick with a software called “fantastico deluxe”. Regarding the template: it is not really that easy to “customize” the template, you can add plugins, widgets, etc., but if you really want to customize it you need at least some html, php skills.

The installation of WP is easy, if you have done it very often, but when I remember the time I used WP the first time it was quite a lot of work involved, not just for the installation, but also building the site, finding plugins, etc.

    Hi,
    I’m new to web design,
    pls guide me

    what is this..
i tought during design phase.. we can design offline with our computer & after finish design only we need a url address, web space to load our website.
    i sit correct.
but in wordpress, home page .. first step is FIND A WEN HOST….
    i need answer

Its not that easy to have wordpress installed on your computer you will have install server program on you computer and time time again I see that there are lots posts here where they have problems with server program on computer.

Its all personal preferences I find easy to work on line server cpanel then installing on my computer.

If you totally new to WordPress, you may try WordPress.com to get familiar with the Dashboard interface and some basic functions first. However WordPress.com doesn’t allow you to install theme and plugins. After you know how to play with all the basic functions, you can move on to self hosted WordPress.

If you are interested in testing and tweaking your site while you get it ready for traffic and learn the ropes, rather than installing it to you laptop, you should strongly consider calling your hosting provider and asking for either 1) a temporary domain, or 2) (more likely) just ask them for the actual IP address of your domain. That way you can work on it there before making it live.

The ip address like https://66.147.244.210/~mypatrai/blog/ will be useable, but no one will visit it until you point your domain name at it. This way you can learn the ropes and play with design without visitors seeing it. When you’re ready, call your host and have them point your domain at the ip address, and then people will be able to get there with the domain name.

using https://66.147.244.210/~mypatrai/blog/ is same as using
    https://your domainname.com/blog

As I said in post if you want to keep private password pretect the folder from you cpanel

I have a site on wordpress which I am currently trying to get set up. I find wordpress very hard to navigate through. I am even having trouble just getting type uploaded to my home page.

I have a site in Rubix and another in Weebly. Both of those are VERY EASY to figure out. WordPress on the other hand I find to be not user friendly at all.

Is there a step-by-step tutorial available?

All of my sites are very new and I am very new to all of this. The sites I have with Rubix and Weebly are: bingbonanza.com and horse of course . org respectively.

If you like you can check video tutorial I have on my website shows you how to use admin panel
