How to get rid of Link modal (wpLink) changes in WordPress 4.5?

This is the question… what to do so we can get rid of the time consuming new concept of Link modal (wpLink) changes in WordPress 4.5. The new changes mean just one thing: two clicks to get where before we would get with one click. This needs to go. Wondering if this will mean a new plugin (which is never good) in my installation or if there is a way to deactivate this downgrade in the concept.
