A reader contacted me yesterday to inform me that he was seeing POP UP ads at the top of my blog on his mobile device. First of all, I don’t have anchor ads or pop up ads option turned on (at least I don’t think I do).

The problem seems to be with the ad at the very top of my website, above the title of my website. I read the help/support on this topic, and decided to try removing this Head ad placement. I did so — I thought — from my WP dashboard.

    The ads disappeared.

But now they are back, and I don’t know why, or how to get rid of them. I DO want ads below my website’s title header, just not above it.

I also want to prevent seeing the same ad over and over again within each blog post (like every two paragraphs)

I’m using Google AdSense Auto Ads, and maybe that’s the problem. But I can’t figure out how to adjust setting in Google Ad Sense and/or the Advanced Ads app so that they play nice together and don’t bombard my readers with too many ads in the wrong locations.

    Any suggestions/assistance would be appreciated.

    Hi commonsense23,

    thanks for reaching out.

    > I’m using Google AdSense Auto Ads, and maybe that’s the problem.

Yes, it is. AdSense does not have an option to adjust the position of Google Auto ads so you can only remove that code and place ads manually to make sure that there are no ads in wrong positions. Please let me know if you need help with that.

    Best regards,
    Thomas

Thomas, yes I would like help with that. I need to know how to adjust setting on my Google AdSense account, and how to manually place GoogleAdsense ads. I’m using a .com account and theme (Catchbox Pro), so I do not have access to the theme code.

I followed the instructions. They differ from actual experience using Apple/Mac products. Had to use a desktop to do set up, because mobile devices didn’t allow me to see the field for naming the ads in Google AdSense.

It seems I was able to get the in-content and in-feed ads to work, and I was able to get the widget ad to work by going through my theme settings.

And I still cannot figure out how to place an ad under my blue menu bar. (Not under the post title) Auto Ads kept putting a banner ad at the very top, which I did not want.

I Assume I need to use manual placement, but I don’t have access to the PHP file with my WP.com account, do I?

    Hi commonsense23,

I am glad to read that you are making progress with your setup.

    > And I still cannot figure out how to place an ad under my blue menu bar.

You can use the Manual placement, but I can’t say if access to the theme files is possible somehow on wp.com. Our Custom Position placement can help choose any position on a site without the need to change any code.

If you enabled Auto ads through Advanced Ads then just disable the option under Advanced Ads > Settings > AdSense > Verification Code & Auto ads.

    Hi,
I have been have the same problem discussed here. I tried to remove Auto Ads and while the Ads themselves have disappeared, there is a large blank space above my website’s title where the ads used to be. How can I get rid of that? Additionally, I keep getting a message from Advanced Ads saying that an auto ad code was found that that I should do the following:
“You can change this in Advanced Ads > Settings > AdSense > Verification code and Auto ads”
How should I change that line? It is not checked.
at this point, I just want to be done with AdSense.
    Thank you for your help!

I think I’ve got it set up correctly now.
I’m not boing to upgrade to custom position placement at this time, though. Thanks.
