How to get it to work with other galleries, besides WP built-in gallery?

Okay, I can appreciate that. But the Nextgen plugin provides the option of using PhotoSwipe (instead of another lightbox), and they provide a link. It’s to the other PhotoSwipe WordPress plugin here.

Since both your plugins are based on the same program by Dmitry Semenov, it seems like there ought to be a way to hook yours in as well.

If anyone out there knows how to do it, please let me know.

Can you not use Nextgen and that?

Okay, I switched to that plugin (PhotoSwipe Light) and it’s working. I forget why I wanted to use yours, but I suspect yours has more features and setting alternatives.
