How to get an author photo appear by a post?

  • Hi All,
    We are running a WP site that was developed for us, but are learning to edit it and get it the way we want ourselves.

    We currently have a “written by” appearing at the top of each post, but would like to have an author photo appear by each post too.

    Is there a straightforward way of getting this to appear automatically by each new post?

    Just to be clear, we have gravatars set up, but they are not appearing so we want to know how to make them visible.
