how to find sql statement for adding a new entry?

This is kind of a weird question. I’m doing a presentation on Content Management Systems for my database class. As we’ve been learning some SQL, I’d like to demonstrate adding a new entry in WordPress, by showing the admin process and then showing the SQL statement in the code that makes it happen. I’ll also be showing the new entry in the database in phpMyAdmin.
Does anyone know where I could find this statement in WP’s source files? And the table that posts get put into in the database? I’ve been looking around for a while and it’s been hard to find.
