    Hello,
Have a large, 10-year-old eZine whose technical debt I’m cleaning up.
    eZine has over 8,000 posts.
Over time owner and different editors have created 169 published pages and 43 draft pages they’d like exported as PDF.
Your plugin looks like just the ticket, but for the life of me I can’t locate anywhere in settings where I can select the types of pages or posts I wish to export/print to PDF.
    Am i missing something?
    Regards,
    Tom

Hi @tbev thanks for reaching out. Currently, the Print My Blog settings page just controls how (and whether) Print My Blog adds buttons to your posts so readers can print them.
It sounds like you’re wanting Print My Blog’s “Print Now” page (accessible from the WordPress dashboard left hand menu, under “Print My Blog.”)
Towards the top of that page is a link saying “Print Options.” In there you’ll find options to filter by author, category, date, etc (and, as of just today, you can choose to include drafts too.) You can also select to print posts or pages there (although currently not both simultaneously, that’s in the works.)

Hopefully Print My Blog and your browser will handle that big of a blog. Be sure to read the Plugin’s FAQs as there can be a few “gotchas” with huge printouts, but it should work.

Let me know if I answered your question!

    Michael,
I’ve successfully printed to PDF all 212 pages (169 published + 43 drafts) and am now printing out just the 169 published pages to their own PDF.

Unfortunately, there’s not an option to print ONLY draft pages or posts, but this is far better than nothing.

After I’ve done more housecleaning on the site, I may get brave and try to print to PDF ALL 8000 posts, but for now will not press my luck!

Thanks very much for your plugin and assistance.

Hi @tbev, thanks for the suggestion, yes it sounds like it would be handy to be able to select only drafts. If that would be really useful to you, I’ll see what I can do about adding it soon. Otherwise I’ll take that as a suggestion for down the road.

    Michael,

Yes, being able to select specific types of PAGES and/or POSTS, for example PUBLISHED, DRAFT, etc. would definitely be quite helpful in letting users export just the specific kinds of PAGES and/or POSTS needed for the task at hand.

For example, on the post side of the website which has over 8,000 PUBLISHED posts, there are over 300 DRAFT posts that need to be reviewed and/or deleted.

Being able to export just the draft into a searchable PDF, would allows me to more effectively determine (off-site) how many and which DRAFT posts need to be deleted outright, and which need to have either their STATE (i.e. DRAFT) or their TYPE (POST) changed to PAGE.

Once I’ve deleted all extraneous POST and PAGE drafts and made a full and working backup of site, I’ll be happy to try for the record and do an export of all 8,000+ posts. If it works your plugin will definitely have earned some bragging rights.

    Best regards,
    TCB

Thanks for the explanation of how you’d like to use it @tbev. It won’t be too hard to allow you to print JUST drafts, but combining posts and pages is a more complex feature I’m about to start working on in the pro version. I’ll update here when I have it working so you can get just drafts.

Hi @tbev, I took a couple hours this morning and got the next version working, which lets you choose exactly which post statuses to include (so you can have only drafts if you want). Would you mind trying it out to verify it works how you expect it?

    Here’s how:

    1. Download the new version from here: https://github.com/mnelson4/printmyblog/archive/FET/only-drafts.zip (It’s version 2.6.0)
    2. Go to your WordPress dashboard, click plugins, then “add new”, then “upload” and select the zip file you just downloaded
    3. Deactivate the previous version Print My Blog
    4. Activate the new version of Print My Blog

Please let me know how it goes; or if you’re not comfortable trying it like this, or don’t have the time, just let me know.

    Thanks

    Michael,
It appears to work as I was able to separately download the correct number of both DRAFT POSTS and DRAFT PAGES.

I’ve created a PDF screenshot to illustrate an area where users are likely to encounter some confusion when selecting DRAFT as a filter option, but don’t seem to have a way to forward it to you via this forum.

Let me know how to get the PDF to you, as I’m happy to test a new revision.

    Best regards,
    TCB

Ok! Version 2.6.0 lets you choose exactly which statuses to include in printouts, so I think we’re good! Thanks for the feedback and trying out the new version. I think this issue is resolved.
