How to: featured posts within categories?

I’ve looked around for a solution to this but haven’t found one. Was wondering if anyone here would know how to do it.

Is it possible to have featured posts within a category? What I’m thinking of is perhaps having these featured posts appear at the top of the category page, be highlighted somehow, and the rest of the posts for the category appear like normal below these featured posts.

I’m not sure how many featured posts I’d have at any given time or if there would be featured posts in every category.

Basically what I’m trying to accomplish, or see if its even possible, is a Featured Listing sort of like you see on other sites (job boards, product listings, etc.)

Thoughts? Suggestions?
