How to extract thumbnails for recent posts?

I’d like to add thumbnail images for recent posts to the bottom of my blog, similar to what 101 Cookbooks has at the bottom of her site here: https://101cookbooks.com/

Is there a plugin or piece of code that I can use to do this?
