  • Try editing the default content of your theme’s sidebar.php file. Or add an empty Text widget to your sidebar.

    You can edit the file via Appearance->Editor.

    sorry esmi, it is still not clear for me, I can’t see the link files in appearance, I knew I could do this in the .php file but I totally don’t know how
    thanks

    Your theme’s sidebar.php file should be visible in Appearance->Editor. Just ensure that you have selected the correct theme.

    This one fooled me when I first started playing with widgets.

    A lot of themes have a default configuration of you don’t include any widgets. The trick as Esmi said is to add a text widget to each sidebar and don’t bother putting any information into it.

    guys I am still very confused sorry but I quite knew to coding and this is the first time I am using the defaut theme. now I am in the sidebar.php file, how do I edit it to make the widgets dissapear?

    Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme! Your changes will be over-written the next time you upgrade WordPress or the theme. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations.

    ok , I will have a look at the child theme and see how do I make changes,
    but I ll try first the tricks you suggested me, how do I add a text widgets to each sidebar? would this not making visible the widgets?

    @esmi,
    this is what I ve done in the first place but still, search, archive and meta still showed up. then I tried to do the trick you told me and putting back one widgets: archive. and know it is the only one to show up. If I delete it, I come back to the first step….what I am doing wrong…..?
    thanks

    Add an empty Text widget to the second sidebar as well.

    do you mean to drag the text widgets to the secondary widget area?
    I have done it just know but the archive doesn’t want to go away….
    thanks esmi…

    And did you add an empty Text widget to the primary sidebar as well?
