• Hello,
I setup a localhost with LAMP to edit and view the website locally, rather than on the live website.
Localhost shows the apache homepage correctly.
I then FTPed the WordPress website to /var/www/html.
I then imported the website’s database to /var/www/html/MySQL.
Now localhost shows: Error 503 Site temporarily unavailable.

  • There are some changes required when you move a website, specifically the WordPress Address and Site Address both need to match your site.
There is a plugin called DUPLICATOR that has an excellent reputation, suggest that you install it upon your live website and do the transfer its way.

Thanks, yes, tried Duplicator but gave up when it became complicated after the install of files.
I found a generic process for all websites, being FTP download website, then export database into LAMP local server.

However, I still cannot get the local website to look like the live website.

This field of technology needs more research and development, as it’s not as easy as the people who tell me ‘never edit a live website’, but they don’t say how?
Maybe they’re playing the game of obfuscation/keeping the artificial value high?
