This is a staging site, so not sure you’ll be able to see it, but link is above. Problem is that I was able to customize the template via the Gutenverse plugin, but when I go to Pages, each page that is listed is connected as a template. When I try to customize the page by going to the page, select edit, there is no display of anything, as if a blank page. Any changes made on this blank page show up in the preview, in addition to the template. (operating blind) If selecting Edit under Template:Page I can see everything, but any changes made here are to the template, not just the page, and it effects all 3 pages, even though they are listed separately in Pages. Am not able to show a Home or Landing page in pages either as it does not show as an option. I can create it so that it shows in Pages, but with no title. (if I give it a title, ie- Home Page, that shows up over the page, same as described above. Template is Startupzy, editing through Gutenverse plugin.

Also, need to know how to get the Page, and other templates to show in the template dropdown when creating a page. Only thing that shows are the 3 pages listed, and a template revision created. (not the single Page template, or any of the others listed in the theme) Hope all of this makes sense, have spent countless hours, would appreciate your help.

  • Honestly, I think this is a design choice from the creator. You create a template AS a page as we traditionally know it to be. I struggle with the same problems/thoughts.

Maybe it has to do with the Gutenverse editor?

You can always try to create a new page and select the button called “Gutenverse Library” where you can either insert an entire layout (such as a fully build Contact page) or just a “Section” which would be more like the contact form on the contact page rather than the full page layout itself. I had a problem with this for the theme I chose as it didn’t look like it should have

First of all, thank you so much for your reply, much appreciated. Secondly, think you may be on to something. I’ve tried creating the page by using the template dropdown under page attributes, but get the same thing…nothing showing when trying to edit, only in preview. When doing it your way, indeed all the elements show so they can be edited in the way I’m used to. Somehow, not sure how, in the course of all of this I’d created a template page in the Gutenverse editor via Appearance, and it shows as a choice when creating a new page as you suggested. There are several templates already created, and some customized this way, via Appearance and the Gutenverse editor. Any ideas on how I can import those into the library, or some other way so that I can use what’s already been create? Thanks so much again, already owe you some Starbucks!

As I see it, the Gutenverse Library is just for the developer’s use and something we “pull” from. Pre-canned themes and pre-created sections so to speak.

If you created your own Template, you can use it on any Page within the WordPress Editor (not Gutenverse) by simply going to the WordPress page in question and in the right-hand sidebar selecting your custom template from the “Template” section dropdown. You won’t actually see the content load into the WordPress page for further editing and I think this is where things get confusing.

I tried to throw content into the page section and it definitely shows up in the preview but the moment I select a template, the template overrides everything on the page. So this tells us we need to basically build our pages out of templates instead. I think this has to do with the Gutenverse editor and nothing more.

Side note: The Header and Footer are shared across all templates and even pages which you can edit in the Gutenverse editor section called “Template Parts”

Still learning though as I got this thing today and have only poked around a couple hours

Looks like you can build out your own pages from scratch and even tie in gutenverse library items and blocks but it doesn’t appear to be full width and there’s a permalink bug where it shows up in the header and shouldn’t be there. AT least for the theme I chose. Probably a result of being so new

    Hi @undercovernerd1 ,

It might be a little bit confusing since this is a relatively new feature from WordPress, you might need to explore more about WordPress’s Full Site Editor.
You can also find our short explanation of FSE in your previous topic.

Regarding our template library, it’s basically just collection of templates our user can directly import if they want to mix and match prebuilt contents. This feature mostly intended to be used inside Full Site Editor, but we also give flexibility to use it inside page editor.

Let us know if you have any more question.

    Thank you.

Thought I would try the multi-site version as I may have use for that as well. When trying to create the initial site is where I’ve been having the issues. Finally gave up on 3 days of work and just removed everything and tried a new installation of my WordPress package. One of the things I found in my research was that to create a new page, after entering the Editor (Beta), and clicking on ‘Templates’, that is where you would click ‘Add New’ to begin with customizing for a new page. However, I noticed there was not an ‘Add New’ button, and when checking, found a source that said that there may not be one for multi-sites. For a multi-site package you would enter through ‘My Sites’, but there was no ‘My Sites’ button either. Then I tried a single site installation and there was still ‘Add New’ button on the templates page. Very frustrating!

I’d like to use a multi-site if possible, but will do without if need be. I’ve been able to get to the templates page through the new editor, and able to customize as needed. However, cannot figure out how to make the Home page show up in the Pages section of the admin panel. (It does show when you click to see the site, but not on the pages where you could open/edit)

Other problem is that even if I get a customized template to show in the dropdown menu when adding a new page, that template does not show when opening the page in the Pages section. (a blank page opens) You can see the customized template when clicking on the Block section, but that opens in template mode, and any changes effect all pages that may have started with that template, even if changes were made to that individual page. Driving me nuts, please help.

    Hi @c2eapps2022 ,

At the moment WordPress can only “Add New” a limited type of core templates, such as : Index, Front Page, Page, Archive, etc.
    https://prnt.sc/-am8pFrZg8G7
Unfortunately they don’t have feature to add custom template yet, once all core templates are used, you can’t add a new one.

The other templates you saw on our themes such as : About, Contact, FAQ, etc are made not through the editor.
If you wish to add custom template, you need to go to the theme’s file directory, and look folder called “templates” and add a new file with “.html” extension.
    https://prnt.sc/81JaB-nMKqOM
For example if you add “portfolio.html”, that file will be loaded in full site editor as “portfolio” template and you can start adding blocks using that template.

Inside the Page editor (not full site editor), you can only assign custom templates, such as About, Contact, etc to a page.
You can’t assign WordPress core templates (Index, Front Page, Archive, etc) to a template because they are loaded respectively to their location based on the WordPress template hierarchy. That’s why on the dropdown menu when you choose templates, you mostly won’t see any core templates there, only custom templates.

A Template will replace all content you have inside your page, if you wish to show the page content inside that template, you need to add a block called “Post Content” inside the template (not the page), so that template could load whatever content you have in the page.

Let us know if you still have any question.

    Thank you.

Thank you for your response. I am using a block theme (Startupzy) that is supposed to work with the new editor, and have added the Gutenverse plugin as suggested. What I am trying to do is customize the template for the various pages of the website I am creating. Typically I would activate the theme, then begin by editing and/or adding through the Pages section in the admin panel. Pretty intuitive, and has worked fine. Under this new editor I’ve not been able to figure out how to do this.

    1. How do I get the Home page to show in the Pages section?

    2. How do I get other pages to load in the Pages section so I can edit accordingly?

Thanks so much for your patience and assistance, it is sincerely appreciated.

    Hi @c2eapps2022 ,

    1. As we mentioned before, default templates cannot be edited through pages, only custom templates could. You need to edit the home page (front-page template) from full site editor. Dashboard->Appearance->Editor.

    2. If you need to edit templates, it’s better to do it inside full site editor instead from pages. You can go to full site editor from Dashboard->Appearance->Editor.
