• Hi there,

    Hoping someone can help! ??

On the homepage of my WordPress site, there is a line of small text with my contact details. Now that I’ve moved, I can’t for the life of me find out where to update this text!

I don’t think this line was part of the original Feather Template – a web developer modified the site template and I believe he added this.

Any suggestions of where to look? I’ve combed through all the places I can think of but don’t see it, or any option to change it.

    Thanks so much in advance,
    Lise

Try searching templates of your theme for that “text” you want removed.

Thanks Tara – could you tell me how to search a template? I looked for a search bar but couldn’t find one.

I would open in a text editor, and search for the text

Hi tara – I’m sorry, I suck at this, but what would you open in a text editor?

but what would you open in a text editor?

The document i want to search/edit

There is a freebie called agent ransack that I use to search for strings in a tree of folders on windows machines. Its ideal for what you want.

    Lisepalmer:

May be its not hardcoded into theme. First check your site’s widgets and menus. If you don’t find it in a widget or in Menus then look into your theme.

Go to Appearance » Editor. You will see a list of files on your right hand. Click each one of them, press CTRL+F and paste this text string you are searching for.

If that does not work out. Connect to your website using an FTP client, like Filezilla. Download your theme directory to your computer. It is possible that your theme developer may have also created a child theme so download that too. Now you can opoen each file in these theme folders in a text editor like notepad. Or you can use Agent Ransack recommended earlier by robthirlby.
