how to display products in categories and sub categories

  • I am building a store and would like to break up my products into main categories and then sub categories then display products in only one category and then 2 or more subcategories.

    cat=state subcat= mens, womens, kids, tshirts, tank tops, hoodies.

    then have a page that displayed
    state #1, mens, tshirts

    state#1, womens, tshirts

    different page that would display
    state #2, mens, tshirts

    state#2, womens, tshirts
    and on and on…..is this possible or do i need to display by product id #’s
