How to disable WordPress auto-update

  • One of my clients seems to have enabled a feature that means that everytime there’s a new version of WordPress it automatically updates. This is of course rather annoying as like with most WordPress updates, it normally breaks the site.

    Strangely it doesn’t seem to be that obviously how to disable this feature? Any suggestions?

  • You’ll need to figure out what they did to get an auto-update happening. Have you asked them? Looked in the plug-ins? Are you sure they aren’t just clicked the “update” button manually when it appears?

    I have the same problem.

    I was on the update page /wp-admin/update-core.php

    I clicked the button “Update Automatically” …big mistake. How can I revert this so my wordpress installation doesn’t update automatically in the future?

    The ‘Update automatically’ button, as default from WP, is a one time installation . It cannot, does not and will not ever update you in an ongoing manner.

    If you’re seeing THAT behavior, it’s a plugin. Turn them all off.

    I was looking for the same answer and found this but I haven’t tested yet…since there isn’t new version of WP since my current one

    place this snippet in your functions.php before the ?>

    add_filter( ‘pre_site_transient_update_core’, create_function( ‘$a’, “return null;” ) );

    any changes making to the functions.php you should back up the file first

    hope it may help but again I am not 100% sure
