I do not recall enabling Jetpack Manage for my site, but found it was enabled. I disabled it (via the Jetpack debugger). Even though Manage is now deactivated, I can still see a list of my site’s users via WordPress.com (under People). I do not want this. I use strong passwords and have enabled two-factor authentication, but I still do not want my users viewable via WordPress.com.

I have other sites that are Jetpack connected (Manage disabled) and their users cannot be retrieved via WordPress.com.

I don’t have Single Signon enabled; I don’t allow users to log in via WordPress.com. So I don’t understand why my users are visible for this site, but not for other sites with similar settings. How can I disable users being viewable via WordPress.com without disabling Jetpack altogether?

  • Hi there,

Thanks for reporting this. I’ve been able to reproduce this on my test sites too. I’ve reported this issue for our developers. I’ll keep you updated as progress is made.

    Hi there

There isn’t a way to turn off the list of users in the People tab on WordPress.com, but that list is only visible to site admins.

You said you have other Jetpack sites where you can’t see the users on WordPress.com. Are you an admin on those sites, and do they have a working Jetpack connection?

Can you send us the urls of those sites so we can look into it?

    Thanks

Hi @drawmyface. Thank you for your response.

First off, as I discuss in this post I recently submitted, all my sites have WP installed in a subdirectory (so WordPress and Site URLs are not the same). Since we gained access to the Debug tool, I see that there is apparently a problem with my connections for these sites. However, Jetpack has always worked fine and I wasn’t aware there was a supposed problem until the Debug tool became available recently.

Now, to answer your question, yes, I am admin on all sites connected to Jetpack.com. I do not have Manage activated on any of my sites. In looking at each site via WordPress.com, I am noticing a pattern:

I have one site I am currently developing, so it still resides in a subdirectory (its WordPress and Site URLs are currently the same). I can see that site’s People and Settings on WordPress.com (Plugins not visible since I have Manage deactivated), and the Debug tool states the connection is fine.

Most of my other live sites were developed in a subdirectory and then had their Site URLs changed to the root (per the Codex instructions) when they were made live. For those sites, I cannot see People or Settings (and no Plugins since Manage is off).

My WooCommerce site was initially developed in a subdirectory, but the WordPress files were moved one directory deeper toward the end of development (again, per the Codex). When going live, the Site URL was changed back to the original subdirectory so, like my other live sites, the WordPress and Site URLs do not match. This site still shows the “There seems to be a problem with your site’s ability to communicate with Jetpack!” message under Debug, but at WordPress.com, its People and Settings are visible.

I can send some of the URLs in question via your support page, but there seems to be an issue with Jetpack and sites that give WordPress its own directory.

Hi @jjbte – Sorry about the delaying in writing back to you. Please do send through those URL’s if you haven’t already done so. We should be able to run further testing with your over our ticket system.

    Cheers!
