    Hey team,
I’m trying to disable SSL on my site until I can get an official certificate issued – I don’t want my clients seeing the “This page may not be secure…” error message.

I’m logged into the back end and I have the web site set to http: instead of https: but I still get force redirected to https

    How can I disable this?
    thanks!

Are you using an SSL plugin or is there an SSL redirect in your .htaccess file?

I don’t have a .htaccess file – not in the main directory anyway, where would I find this?

No plugins that would effect SSL, no

Yes, you do. It’s a “hidden” file in the root of your WordPress site. If you use FTP or a file manager, you may need to set an option to see hidden files.

Sure, I get I am supposed to have a .htaccess however it looks like I do not.
I am viewing hidden folders, and I’ve looked in the SSH terminal to see if I can see it there.

There is in fact, no .htaccess file.

I just uploaded one from another WP site that I manage to see if this made a difference.

You know what? That fixed it.
    Cheers Steve!

Edit; Actually, I at the same time was going through the database and changing all instances of the old domain to the new domain. So one of these two things worked.

Either way, thanks for your help
