    Hello,
Google Fonts are not GDPR compliant when they are loaded from their servers. Instead we have to disable and self-host them.
Can you please provide instructions how to disable Google Fonts in your theme?

    Hi there,

You can simply choose a system font instead of a Google font in “Customize > Typography”.

Let me know if you need more info ??

Saying that Google fonts are not GDPR compilant is a HUGE mistake and only improve misunderstanding of some basic concept.
What is not compilant is the way you Embed Google fonts into your/client web site using Google fonts remote storage as CDN.
You have to check any behaviour of any CDN that you website use and be sure to be compliant with the GDPR. And remember: you can store a IP address and be compliant with the GDPR if you don’t have any other data that allows you to identity the use: a IP address alone in not enough to identify someone.

In case you wonder, there are already people getting letters from attorneys because they use Google Fonts.

What is “system stack”? Is this a font? If I use any system font, is Google Fonts completely disabled?

The system stack is the font your computer uses by default. Any font you choose inside the “System fonts” area of the dropdown will disable Google Fonts.

You can also host Google Fonts locally on your website: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-local-fonts/

Are you planning to implement self hosting a font as a feature, considering that no one is allowed to load Google Fonts anymore (unless self hosted)?
The Google fonts dropdown menu is pretty much obsolete now and even dangerous. The situation is pretty clear now, because multiple people already got letters from attorneys.

I heard there are some themes that make this process easier.

I added Open Sans as a system font (the tutorial was very good), but now the font loads super slowly. I downloaded all styles of the latin char set, because all styles we used in the Typgraphy List when I selected Open Sans under Google Fonts.
Do I have to reduce the styles? If yes, how can I know which ones I need?

It doesn’t work! If I select “Open Sans” from the System Fonts list, publish it, leave the customizer and then reopen it, the Google Fonts version is selected. webbkoll also shows me that q request to the Google server is sent.

Any chance you can link me to your site so I can inspect the source?

    Its codinginflow.com

It still loads them from Google Fonts and somehow it now needs 1-2 seconds to load the font.

When I press F12 it says the font is loaded from my server, but https://webbkoll.dataskydd.net says that I am still connecting to Google Fonts!

Any idea? I can’t keep it like this.

That’s strange – you’re sure you’ve chosen the “Open Sans” within the “System fonts” section of the Customizer?

You can try naming it something else within the @font-face CSS and filter. Something like “My Custom Font”.

You would do this by changing the font-family name in the CSS, and then matching it within the PHP filter you used.

Let me know if you need more info ??

It doesn’t work, it falls back to some random system font.
Are you going to solve this highly important problem that applies to every single user of this theme, or do you force me to switch to a theme that gets the job done?
