• hello,

Your last update has installed freemius in my dashboard. I am not happy with that, not at all.
Could you please let me know if there’s any way to disable freemius? Or do I have to install another theme?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Hello,

Freemium handles the updates for us, but yes, you may opt by skipping it and the theme should work normally without any issues.

I hope this answers your question.

    How do you skip it?

It should display a button saying Skip, just press it.

    hello,

    Thanks for your reply.
    I still have some questions.

    1. same as twgerber, how do we opt out or skip freemius?
    2. If/when freemius is disabled, do we still get updates for the free theme and for the paid add-ons?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello mate,

    1. You can opt by clicking on the Skip button so that you do not connect with Freemium, even thus the ideal would be to click Allow & Continue so that you can keep up with updates.

    2. If Freemium is skipped, it will not associate with the licenses, meaning it will allow running the plugins but without a licensed key it will not update, forcing you to handle it manually.

    You are welcome.

I update manually already. What does Freemium give me? What is the overhead? What does it do?

I am surprised at this change being done with NO notice to your customers. Bad bad bad customer service.

    Hello mate,

Freemium handles OceanWP subscriptions, meaning, it provides a client area for users to manage their licenses and keys.

The switch was announced on May 21, 2019, through our blog: https://oceanwp.org/blog/oceanwp-freemius-perfect-match/

We also sent newsletters informing about the switch, and posted about it on our official social channels.

I got none of the notices. I will check my side.

    Hi Alex,

Just to confirm, if I opt-out of Freemius (as I am using the free version and would prefer not to send diagnostic tracking), will we no longer get updates to the OceanWP theme and Ocean Extra plugin via the WordPress update feature in the admin area?

    Regards,
    Josiah

I assume I will still get notified via wordpress updates as I have been. If not then I am very concerned too.

    Hi again,

I have checked my site back-end and couldn’t find any opt-out option or skip button. With the last update my site is already connected to freemius and my personal info has been transfered from oceanwp.org to their site. How come it was done without my consent?

Could you please clarify the situation and explain how a user can use oceanwp free theme and premium add-ons without any connection to freemius web site?
I don’t mind doing the updates manualy, what I mind is having my site connected to another one without my consent and having to put up with its tracking.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi there, this is Vova from Freemius. I’m chiming in to clarify several things to reduce confusion:

    • The Freemius SDK was added to Ocean Extra, not to the theme. So, if you are only using the theme (without Ocean Extra), nothing changes.
    • The updates mechanism of the theme and all its free add-ons remain exactly the same through www.remarpro.com. It has nothing to do with Freemius.
    • If you are not using any of the paid add-ons, after installing Ocean Extra, you will be shown with an option to opt-in or skip the usage-tracking. If you don’t want to share your data with the theme’s team, simply click the Skip option. If you already opted-in and like to opt-out, you can do so by going to the themes page in the WP Admin, clicking on OceanWP, and there you’ll find an opt-out button.
    • If you are using any of the paid add-ons, you will have to activate a license to use it and to get ongoing updates. Since Freemius is responsible for securely serving paid add-on updates for license holders, the license-related info must be validated through Freemius.
    • One last point, we/Freemius do not share/sell your information with/to anyone. The only people that can access it is OceanWP’s team members. Obviously, if there are issues that require our troubleshooting, with OceanWP’s approval, our team can also access the data. Pretty much the same license data that was previously sent to OceanWP.org now simply goes through Freemius, which is much more robust to handle licensing efficiently and reduce the heavy load OceanWP’s servers were facing before. All to all, just like Nicolas explained in the pre-transition announcement back in May, the main goal of the transition is to free OceanWP team’s time so they can focus on improving their products line and providing better customer support while delegating all the eCommerce and licensing related aspects to Freemius.

    Hope it helps.

    Hi Vova,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

If I understand you correctly, if I want to use the add-ons I paid for I have to accept your constant connection to my site and your tracking?

And, by the way, the add-ons do not work as my licence is considered invalid by freemius.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi @svovaf,

Thanks very much for the explanation.

It looks like Freemius / OceanWP Extra requests the following permissions:

    • YOUR PROFILE OVERVIEW
      Name and email address
    • YOUR SITE OVERVIEW
Site URL, WP version, PHP info, plugins & themes
    • ADMIN NOTICES
      Updates, announcements, marketing, no spam
    • CURRENT THEME EVENTS
      Activation, deactivation and uninstall

So it looks like when you opt in, it will pass on only your email and name (likely necessary if you are buying premium addons) and basic info about how your server is set up. It also gives OceanWP permission to display admin notices. As for the last item, I think this just reports what themes you install / uninstall.

I think if you wanted to buy premium modules, this isn’t too much of a privacy intrustion, but if you’re just using the free version I don’t think you’d miss out on too much if you opt out.

    Regards,
    Josiah

What if I have the unlimited license and installed OceanWp on several client websites, and then suddenly I discovered that ALL my clients can now see my private information including my name, Email, User ID, Public Key, Secret Key, Billing, Payments and invoices!!!
I am using the White Label extension and it doesn’t hide theme panel anymore.
When will you please correct this?
    Thanks
