I wondered the same thing and asked on https://yoast.com/yoast-seo-3-4-accessibility-first/ but so far no reply. I did find this article https://www.mapleseo.co.uk/seo-yoast-tutorial/ which says you have to go to SEO > Dashboard > click on Security Tab and Enable “Advanced part of the Yoast SEO meta box”. Yes, that’s very counter-intuitive.

But, that needs to be enabled in order for the enable/disable options to appear under SEO > Titles & Metas, where the changes are made.

After turning focus keyword and readability off, I returned to SEO > Dashboard and disabled “Advanced part of the Yoast SEO meta box” and the settings seem to be holding.

I think its a bit rich that 3.4 is labelled accessibility first. More like accessibility last. Why does this plugin make everything so complicated? Anyway, hope that helps you.

We’ve updated the knowledge base articles with the steps to disable these features.

Please note that “Advanced part of the Yoast SEO meta box” does not need to be enabled to disable these features.

Please refer to these knowledge base articles:

Why don’t you just say the switch for both functions is under Titles & Meta in the Yoast sub-menu of the WordPress Dashboard?

Those links you gave load pages without any styling. In fact, the whole database seems to load this way. They look like blank pages until you scroll way down to see the content.

Again, why does this plugin make everything so difficult?

My whining aside, thank you for giving us this option.
