How to disable automatic compression during an upload process?

    Hi,

    When I add a watermark (by means of a plugin) to my automatically compressed images (by means of your plugin) whose backgroung is transparent I get completely black backgroung instead of the transparent one. So I need to be able to use compression after adding a watermark, and not before. Of course, I could disable your plugin each time before image uploading, but this is deeply uncomfortable and isn’t an option at all.

    what format does the watermark plugin save the images as? It sounds like there is a chance that the watermark plugin converts the .png images to .jpeg . Jpeg does not support transparency and will automatically fill in transparent space with black.

    Does adding the watermark before compressing the image keep the image transparency? If it doesn’t then it’s very likely that the watermark plugin converts all images to .jpg format.

    A watermark plugin (Easy Watermark) actually save images as .png. It looks like it just can’t properly work with 8 bit .png images. That’s why I need to run TinyPNG after watermark filters.

    Hi taler,

    as of now the plugin only support 8 bit .png images. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do at the moment to fix your issue. This is of course something that we would like to improve in the future, but I can’t tell when that will be.

    Hello Taler,

    We’ve looked a bit more into it. Maybe the watermark plugin author can set the priority of their plugin higher, so it will add the watermark earlier. For them it would be a very simple change. This would solve two problems: the watermark plugin can just use your uploaded original 24 bit PNG and you don’t have to go to the media library afterwards to compress the image manually. It will probably also make their plugin more compatible with other plugins.

    The feature request you are referring to as a setting to disable upload we may add in future as there have been more requests for this and it will also help you out with the problem of the other plugin.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the respose. Unfortunately this is not an option cause watermarks are added manually to every single image, and not automatically during an uploading process.
