• About a year ago, I created the subdomain handmadegiftshow.urbancraftuprising.com.

We recently decided to switch this to a subdirectory instead, and our site is now hosted at urbancraftuprising.com/handmadegiftshow.

How do I cleanly delete the old handmadegiftshow.urbancraftuprising.com subdomain, both from our multi-site on WordPress, and from our FTP site?

    Thanks,

  • 1. In the DOMAINS section of the cPanel home screen, click Subdomains:
    2. Under Modify a Subdomain, locate the subdomain that you want to delete, and then click Remove.
    3. Click Delete Subdomain to confirm the deletion. When you delete a subdomain, its folder and files are not deleted.

You can do this by visiting your hosting Cpanel (Control panel). When you login to your Cpanel, look at the domain section, there you will see Addons domain, subdomain and other domain tools. Click on subdomain, on the list of all your subdomains, look for the one you wish to delete, then delete it from there.
But mind you, when you delete a domain or a subdomain, the directory created when you were adding or creating the domain or subdomain, will not be deleted together. So therefore, the directory will still be in your cpanel file manager. So you have to visit your cpanel file manager and the delete the directory bearing the name of the domain or subdomain you deleted initially.

You may want to setup a 301 redirect from the old subdomain to your new subfolder. With multi-site, add on subdomains are still directed to the primary WP installation folder, don’t delete that one!

Switching from multi-site subdomain style to subfolder style requires some editing of both .htaccess (or equivalent) and wp-config.php. Other changes may be required to WP for a complete transition. Conversion isn’t as straight forward as we’d like. The last time I did something like this, there were some less than obvious issues to resolve. I don’t recall the specifics unfortunately. It was a good while ago, such issues may have been resolved since then. Just be ready for it to not go as smoothly as you’d expect.

Go to the main page of cPanel.
    Click on File Manager.
Navigate to the document root of the subdomain.
    Delete the folder. w3toys

if you dont have cpanel you can do it with filezilla vidmate
